Rabbi Barry Leff's Blog

  • Rabbi Barry Leff's Divrei Torah (sermons) and thoughts on other topics are posted here. Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel said the job of the rabbi is to "comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable." May you find whichever of those it is you need in these words!

Further to the post, the Jewish paper the Forward has reported that four of the most conservative members of the Law Committee, including Rabbi Joel Roth, resigned in protest over the approval of the Dorff teshuva (http://www.forward.com/articles/conservative-panel-votes-to-permit-gay-rabbis/). Even though my own views are on the liberal side, I am very disappointed -- Rabbi Roth is one of the "gedolim," the great rabbis of the Conservative movement. It is a huge loss to have him leave the Law Committee.
