Tom:
I see that the Bima is raised. One step does not seem very much. If this is accurate, why make it raised at all and keep it seamless from congregation to Bima. Therefore fully accessable for all congregants, handicapped or not.

With regard to the lecturns. Again why block the view from congregant to the full Bima. If they must be placed can't they be clear, so as to be the most esthetic when looking upon the Bima. For instance when a child is becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah. From any seat they can be viewed, instead of having to sit in a preferred seat to view the child.
Finally, the Torah reading platform from where much davening and reading is done, can it be raised or lowered to fit the need of the reader. Can a book stand (for a readers, book, notes, etc) be found to functionally and esthetically meet the needs of the Rabbi, Cantor and congregants. It seems that we do not have one now.
Thanks for reading this.
Chag samaach.
