Counting the Omer Day 34: Yesod of Hod

Hod_YesodYesod of Hod: Bonding/Foundation of Humility.  Does your humility serve a bonding effect? Does it help you connect with others, by helping you be a better listener? Is your humility based on a foundation of awe and wonder at the grandness of God’s magnificent creations? Or is it based on shaky foundations? Low self-esteem often masquerades as humility, but it’s not a real foundation for true humility. Low self-esteem says “I’m worthless,” but that’s not what humility is about. Humility acknowledges the worth of all human beings — the self included. Humility may mean losing some of the feeling of “specialness,” but it doesn’t mean losing one’s sense of self-worth. Similar to the way a t-shirt slogan puts it: “I’m a completely unique individual, just like everyone else.”
